On Thursday 21 December 2017 a lectures and workshop were held at the primary school “OŠ Dobrova” in Dobrova. The topic of lecture was patriotism and criteria for grading democratic societies (7th grade) and on the official institutions of the European Union and Schengen area (8th grade). First lecture was presented to the pupils of 8th class, where Miha Zimšek presented some of the fundamental characteristics of the European Union (the number of Member States, the anthem, the flag, etc.) and the main main institutions: the European Parliament, the European Council, the EU Council and the European Commission. At the end of the lecture, pupils were acquainted with their rights, which are inherently linked with European citizenship, followed by presentation of Schengen are at the end of the lecture. The lecture was followed by a workshop where we focused on the political participation of young people - what political participation is, what forms of participation are known, etc. After a brief debate, the pupils tried out in one of the deliberative innovations of citizen participation in political decision-making called the "Citizens’ trial". The pupils were divided into three groups: advocates of political participation of young people, opponents and jury. At the end of the workshop, both groups presented their views, and the jury decided who had more convincing arguments.
