Lecture and workshop at the primary school “OŠ Podzemelj”
On Friday 9 March 2018 a lecture and workshop were held at the primary school “OŠ Podzemelj”. The topic was Media: control over political authority and the availability of information. Before we introduced the media as the fourth branch of power to the pupils, we acquainted them with the separation of power into three branches. We explained separation of power in Slovenia and in the European Union. We then continued with the media: the development, tasks, functions and role. In the last part of the lecture, we focused on the phenomenon of "fake news" and the (youth) media literacy.
The lecture was followed by a workshop, where the pupils tried out in one of the deliberative innovations of citizen participation in political decision-making called the "Citizens’ trial". The pupils were divided into three groups: advocates of using social media, opponents and jury. At the end of the workshop, both groups presented their views, and the jury decided who had more convincing arguments.
